The latest jewelry collection from Edwards Hayslett Fine Art incorporates rich Renaissance hues with neo Victorian-Modernist design. It’s no suprise that Kathy is an art museum curator. She is based in Eastern Iowa and launched her small jewelry business after a passion for designing and making jewelry began after the devastating 2008 floods.
Which five words best describe you? Creative, practical, hard-working, intellectual and distracted.
How did you get your career start and what path have you taken since? I started with degrees in Art History and Studio Arts from University of Richmond Virginia and Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts). I’ve worked in museums since 1983. From 1989 to mid 1998 I was the director of The Print Center in Philadelphia. I relocated to Iowa in 1998 to become the Uiversity of Iowa Museum of Art curator of prints, drawings and photographs. Who inspires you? I draw a lot of inspiration from historic jewelry design; Calder was amazing.
What are you passionate about? All the visual arts, making things, thinking and writing about art.
What dreams do you still want to fulfill? More travel to places like Spain, Ireland, Turkey, Africa. I’d like to be able to have more time to make art.
What are you reading? I just finished reading Just Kids by Patti Smith and now I’m reading Patricia Albers’ biography of Joan Mitchell.
